Congratulations to Jeff Leiberton, a recipient of the Iowa Space Grant Consortium's Undergraduate Research Scholarship! Jeff will receive $5,000 in support of his research with Prof. DeRoo, which covers both X-ray observation and the future instruments needed to observe the cosmos in this wavelength range.

Jeff's research includes analyzing an observation of J0541-6659, a supernova remnant in a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way, performed by the Chandra X-ray Observatory. Jeff is the lead scientist on this project, and has reduced data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory to determine how this supernova remnant and pulsar wind nebula are co-evolving. In addition, Jeff is studying correction algorithms for adjustable X-ray mirrors. Jeff's work allows our group to test functionality of a existent adjustable X-ray mirror in our lab, and is related to addressing a critical technology gap in the NASA's "Physics of the Cosmos" section of the Astrophysics Division.

Details about the ISGC's funding opportunities for undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty can be found at their website, while a link to the departmental announcement is included here.
