Congratulations to Jeff Leiberton, a recipent of a University of Iowa's Physics & Astronomy Van Allen Research Grant!

Jeff is funded to continue his work on MCSNR J0541.8-6659, a supernova remnant (SNR) in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a nearby satellite galaxy of the Milky Way. Jeff's study hopes to shed light on the evolution of this SNR and its interaction with its surrounding medium, as supernovae can drive feedback and chemical enrichment at galactic scales.

The X-ray image, as observed by the Chandra X-ray Observatory, is on the left, while an optical observation of this SNR (from Yew et al. 2020) appears on the right.
